Common Interview Questions for Freshers and How to Answer Them

Most first interviews ask the same handful of questions. Prepare these well and you will walk in calmer and answer better.

“Tell me about yourself.”

Answer in under a minute: your degree, one or two things you did that relate to the job, and why you want this role. Do not repeat your whole CV.

“Why do you want to work here?”

Look at the company's website and social pages before the interview. Mention one thing you genuinely like about their work and connect it to what you want to learn.

“What are your strengths and weaknesses?”

Give one strength with a short example. For a weakness, pick something real but not central to the job, and say what you are doing to improve it.

“Tell me about a challenge you faced.”

Use the STAR method: the Situation, the Task you had, the Action you took and the Result. A university project or internship task works well as an example.

“What are your salary expectations?”

Research the usual range for the role in your city first. Give a range, and say you are open to discussing it based on the full package and the learning on offer.

Questions you should ask

  • What does a normal day in this role look like?
  • How will my work be reviewed in the first three months?
  • What are the next steps after this interview?
